Colin was born in 1951 and studied Graphic Design at Wolverhampton Polytechnic, and Illustration at the Royal College of Art, London. Since then he has written over sixty more children's books, and aims to continue till he runs out of ideas!
The Times Educational Supplement wrote:

Colin
West's
The Big Book of Nonsense will surely enhance his reputation as one of our most consistently witty children's poets. This handsome book gathers West's nonsense verse across two decades.
Liberally illustrated in
colour
by
West himself (he produces picture books as well as poetry), this book should be in every teacher's personal library, on hand should an opportunity for five minutes of off-message, anarchic laughter present itself.

I love using
colour, and animals are my favourite subjects in picture books. All these images are from characters I created over the years for Walker Books. They include my three most popular books,
Have You Seen the Crocodile?
“Pardon?” Said the Giraffe
“I Don’t Care!” said the Bear.
I made a series of books about
Monty, the Dog Who Wears Glasses, which was later made into a
BBC cartoon. The other characters here include
Percy the Pink, a king whose favourite colour was pink, and a giant called
Big Wig, whose hairpiece blew off in the wind!.
